Apr 1994 – Apr 1996 On CONTRACT to Argos Plc (Milton Keynes, UK)
Snr. Analyst/Programmer involved directly in Development, Programming, Installation and Training.
ARGOS required a knowledgeable and proficient Snr. FoxPro
Analyst/Programmer to design, write, implement, train and support a series of
small/medium data management programs. These systems are part of Argos Premier
Incentives, the Incentive and promotion division of Argos. I wrote the original
software in FoxPro for DOS in a stand alone environment and then a few months
later I converted them to FoxPro for WINDOWS and Network operation. The work was
to be for 2 week, but has been extended piece meal month by month to become 2
years.
The main products of Argos Premier Incentives include Premier Points [Points
collecting cards in association with companies like Mobil Oil/BP &
Somerfield], Argos Vouchers and Premier Award Banks [Incentive Points collecting
scheme for employees & customers of Client companies].
The small and medium schemes (up to 1000 members) are written in FoxPro for the
PC, whereas the larger systems are written by the in-house team for the AS/400.
As FoxPro is not a company standard the Award Banks are slowly being converted
to AS/400 operation. To this end I am now handing over the expertise to the
in-house PC systems person as the systems have only a couple of months before
they are absorbed into the AS/400 environment.
Recent work has included small and medium schemes run under MS Access 2.0 and MS
Visual BASIC 3 whilst waiting for the new AS/400 system to come fully on-line.
Also a larger database summary system written in FoxPro for DOS which takes
500Mb of information from the AS/400 billing system and analyses it. Producing
weekly reports. Plus graphs in Excel.
